Question About a Shareware UTAU Feature

A while back I started using shareware UTAU, but there's one feature that I can't quite figure out what it does. I think it's called the wave-envelope tool? (Sorry I can't recall it's name! It's the little "w" that appears on the bottom)

What exactly does it do besides display envelopes(?) underneath the notes? Anything?

What purpose does it serve? Do I use it as reference when enveloping?

Sorry if this a total noob question! I couldn't find any answers when I tried googling it. :cynical:

It's just a visual reference for the actual volume of the audio. If you're working on crossfades or trying to fix the volume of uneven-sounding notes you can check that to identify the sound more easily. It doesn't seem to serve any other purpose.
