I have a small issue with UTAU

Whenever I try entering lyrics in UTAU (say I tried entering “あ”), it makes no sound, even when the volume is up.
Sorry that this question is dumb, but I just want to know if I could get some help with the issue or see what I did wrong.
The issue is probably me just being an idiot but I’d highly appreciate the help!

Are Defoko's files in japanese? If they're not, then that could be the problem.

Also, now everything is completely silent now matter the volume, not even Defoko’s samples
