I didn't edit the ust much since I focused on the mixing for this cover.
(You can download the screaming ust btw)

New cover! Please critique this instead!

I can't give a very in-depth critique because I'm fairly new to mixing, but it sounds like the instrumental is a bit loud? I love the cover though!

I'm not the best at mixing myself, but I'll give it a shot.

Hmmm, the instrumental overpowers the aaaa vocals a little bit (like in the beginning) The harmonies are also a tad on the loud side, but that's a difficult balance to find. I would know. OTL
The main vocals overpower the instrumental in the verses, but get drowned out in the chorus.

I'd suggest (and this may sound weird) mixing the chorus vocal line and verse vocals as two separate things. Does that make sense? The chorus would have its own EQ, reverb, and chorus effects. These would be different from the verse settings. (I should take my own advice lol)
And you already know about giving the harmonies their own vocal channel, right?
(I'm assuming you use FL/Reaper to mix, and not Audacity. ^^; )

Overall, it's not a bad cover. The aaahs/screams add a nice flair, and the vocals suit the genre. The mixing is not horrendous, and really just needs a bit of tweaking here and there.

//Does this help you at all? OTL

I think its a nice cover and the mix is fairly well but i feel you should maybe lower the volume of the instrumental + the harm like the others said and if youre still editing the ust you can tune to increase the strrength of some of the words to have a more power effect. i hope this help im still a little new too xd

@spleenstealer @IbAllAlone Thanks for the input, guys! Btw, did you guys listen to it with ear/headset/phones/plugs or not? I used my sister's earplugs with the left plug missing OTL I noticed myself that the vocals sound weaker when I'm not using earplugs but sound fine to me when I do. (I thought the instrumental sounded too weak, actually OTL)

The screaming was purposely made to be drowned since I wanted it to sound as if it's in the background (it should be obvious with ear/head-things). Maybe I should have made the Phaser effect sound more obvious so I can make it louder?

    I also purposely made the harmonies sound louder than the norm since Rolling Girl is that kind of song ^^;

I feel like I'm trying to justify my mixing OTL

@M. Enini Just got your reply!
Do I lower or increase the instrumental? Oh boy... I guess my mixing is one of the types the sound different with and without ear/head-things.

I didn't edit the tuning since I used it just for mixing practice, but all my other covers will have full tuning ^^

    Thanks for your input!

The backing track makes some vocals sound faint, but the timing and the slight reverb effect is great! I would just suggest lowering the backing track's volume a little bit or slightly increasing the vocals volume some. Overall, i think you did great!

I did wear headphones, I have a gaming headset that I usually have on. XD Wearing headphones vs not wearing headphones can indeed make a biiiig difference in mixing. (In fact, I once tried to mix something where I'd do it until I was satisfied with the headphones, and then double checked with the earbuds to make sure it sounded okay there too. )

Ahh, it was not immediately obvious that it was supposed to be in the background, though I did wonder for a bit. I would agree that you should have had the Phaser effect a liitle louder to make it more obvious.

Ah. So that might actually be a personal preference that we disagree on. I personally like my harmonies loud enough that you can tell they exist, but not enough that you can actively distinguish them. So, I think it may actually come down to personal preference.

//don't worry about it, I would want to explain my choices too. o3ob

there's something to be said for artistic licence.

    [EDIT]
err-- the mixing is fine though. might boost up the screams and find another way to diffuse them; a reverb effect may or may not work there. i only mention it because it's significantly softer than the other vocals, and doesn't have any floaty effect to make it sound like it ought to be in the background (other than the context clue of it being an "aah").

actually, you might try bumping it's volume up to normal (or just below, since it IS a background element) and cut the low end. there's not much low end to begin with, but cut into the vocals just enough that it sounds like a radio signal, that sort of effect. alternatively, cut into it from the high end. you ought to end up with something you like, and will probably take out a lot of the volume with it-- you can adjust as necessary post fx.

that's just the screams. the rest i like as-is.

I added a newer cover to the first post. Suggestions such as a softer harmony were applied here. Please critique that now! Also please tell me whether you used ear/head-things or not.

It sounds rather fine hearing this with headphones (listened in to one ear, anyway)
