Because when someone says that, it has self-deprecating undertones and insults the person saying it. Furthermore, they imply that their art is not good, and so this 'compliment' is like saying 'well, your art is not sucky'. I just found it kind of insulting and think there are better ways to give a general compliment to someone ;^^

Thank god somebody else gets it! People try to make it the "you're so good while I'm so bad" compliment and it's especially prevalent in the art community. If you take a step back and look at the compliment it's not at all that positive.

It doesn't make the artist feel good either since the reason their art became worthy of compliments is hard work and practice, which they tell the person who complimented them. It's far better to just compliment people without comparing!

especially if its coming from someone who's like "i can't even draw stick figures!" okay well mayBE THATS BECAUSE YOU DONT PRACTICE.

although there are people who practice and still can't draw as good as they like, the majority of people who say that are ones who don't practice

I'm glad others agree ^^ Thought I was the only one who thought that lol. But yeah, it really isn't a good compliment and can be kind of uncomfortable, and it never helps anyone to compare

@Citrus exactly, another kicker is when the 'compliment' comes from someone who's never even bothered to pick up a pencil to try to draw anything

I think those who aren't good as they like are just inexperienced or too hard on themselves. These things take different amount of practice for each person and each style! If you're unhappy about your creations, find the reason that's making you feel that way and improve on it!
