Is Utau dead?

I generally agree with the sentiments being stated here:
- The community is getting older, therefore, creation is in decline/creativity in work is stagnant.

Try to get younger friends involved if you can.

- The effort vs reward just... doesn't make it worth it now.

This is in the eye of the beholder, but as far as making a new voicebank, unless you're doing something super-novel and specific, it's unlikely that someone will check on it unless you've managed to blow away the competition.

And in art and music, there are always oceans of the stuff. You either want to create something and share it or you don't.

If you're keen on making something, go ahead and make it, not because you think it'll go around the world if you share it, but because the practice you get while making it will be useful in the future. There are other projects like UTAU in the works, when one of them proves itself, you'll already know what you're doing, making the transition easier.

- The UTAU software is a ticking time bomb.

Get into retro computing if you haven't already, because for all intents, that's what this is and it's our future.

Things aren't truly dead until whatever future iteration of Windows 10 comes around... and you can't install it through conventional means. Until then, the "death" will be coming from changes within the community.

I think it's more likely that civilization will ruin itself and break the internet first

If this actually happened it would be really cool!
Knowing this community it'll happen for sure, we already have a program that auto otos and people working on voice synths, the community may not be as mainstream but we've gotten even more passionate haha, I recently just picked utau up again and I love it (I can't sing and I love technology) it's a little time consuming but it's nice to have something away from work and just for fun.

All of this is true, I've been just focusing on doing it for fun, however I think easy and simple tutorials are the way to get more users, since most tutorials have been deleted / are outdated, we need veterans who know the program inside and out to teach the new users, this is how I learned and got into it personally.

If you're interested, you could become part of St. Defoko's School of UTAU. At the moment we just have a tutoring program intended to individually help new users, but there's more planned for the future.

All communities "die" at one point or another. If they're lucky, they'll pick themselves back up. As for the UTAU community, it doesn't seem dead to me. New people are joining and older users are leaving, which is normal! It's almost like a new generation of users is beginning.

On the topic of tutorials, having more of those would be great! I remember when I first started UTAU, couldn't find the correct tutorials, and pressed different buttons until it worked. It's a real motivation killer to not know what you're doing and not have any tutorials to help you out.

Last night I collected every useful plugin I could find and wavtool / resampler, I have a list of what is gonna be in my tutorial and I hope it's simple yet really gives good tips, I also will make it very clear and high quality, as older users we need to help the new since the older users when I first started helped me, it's kind of tradition with Utau haha

It'd be nice if there was something done that got people involved. Not just to bring in their UTAUs or anything, but for one thing, group projects and even that time when everyone would cover the Vocaloid Medley was fun.

It's nice to see your UTAU's bank get used. If anything, it's such a great reward to see all your effort being used by someone. We all know UTAUs like Ritsu, Matsuda Poiyo, etc.

I remember also when Te Te Te was a song that was literally just that, "te te te" but you'd get like a looong song out of it using maybe 10+ UTAUs and having a video for it.

That kinda stuff made people look for their UTAUs I think. I think there's something to say about how (at least in my perspective) I rarely see people using UTAUs that aren't theirs. Myself included!

I'm still trying to think over what kind of things could be done but I figured I'd throw it out there.

Maybe it's just because I hang out on SoundCloud where the people I follow are either posting or reposting other's covers, but I think I agree with the others in saying that the fandom is only on a decline/plateau, but not dead. Nothing extremely exciting aside from occasional Kanru Hua developments are happening and less high-quality gotta-use-it vbs are popping up, so there isn't much to hype over. A decent amount of users are still active, though

The program itself is still usable though, so that's def not dead.

Summer's coming up soon; in my experience during UTAU's prime years, summer usually sees a medium to large spike in user activity

I agree, since we don't have school in summer. The recent decline comes from the fact, that its exam season.
