Has the UTAU community dwindled?

I started using UTAU 7 years ago but stopped a couple of years later. I recently picked up UTAU again but while searching for covers on YouTube, most I found are from at least 3 years ago. Also, there hasn't been an update for a while, and the only new thing I got really excited about was Moresampler. Was the community always this small, did it actually get smaller?

There has actually been tons of recent covers, the community got bigger but that seems to be because people are trying to get famous but yea, Ameya has practically abandoned working on utau
The only person that's really doing something for utau is Kanru, the creator of moresampler
I mean maybe people are leaving now more because they either are just too busy with real life or they are notice that utau won't get them any fame(?)

I would actually say that the community has been growing. If you've been searching for older songs or older users, then it may be the case that those songs are no longer popular and those users are no longer active. On the overseas side, at least, I've noticed that the early population of popular users are now adults and have busy lives. Though there's still plenty of newer younger people around.

Since your factor for what considers the community's size to be covers, YouTube might not be the best place since searching up UTAU would bring older covers with a number of views accumulated over the years. Try searching with the Filter for the most recent.

You also might want to use SoundCloud more as most people post there since they don't need to worry about the video and tracks circulate quickly due the the repost feature it has.

I'm one of the users from like 8 years ago and like, then I was a young teenager who had a lot of time on his hands to be able to mess around with UTAU. The community then was REALLY small, but because it was smaller, it was also a lot more cohesive and intertwined?

The community now is definitely bigger, but it's not as cohesive or pulled together as it was when, say, UF was first created as overseas utauforum.

It's spread out over tumblr, twitter, soundcloud, etc. There's not really even a big community on VO anymore it feels like?

IDK tho, as a community, the centre of our community seems to have shifted to other platforms that are a little more difficult to actually utilize as a cohesive community I think.

It's not smaller, just more spread out and less intertwined.

I definitely agree with that. I've only been around for 5 years, but UTAforum definitely isn't a center of activity anymore. I can confidently say I don't know most of the community, and I really only interact with people here, on Twitter, and in Skype groups. Reintegrating is probably more a matter of connecting with people on various platforms and having a friend group, than it is huddling around the same ball of content and content creators.

Ah, I see. It's sad to see that it isn't as cohesive as it was, but I guess that's to be expected with a growth in the community. I'll be checking out Soundcloud and other places, thanks for the tips
