Looking for Co-panelists for Anime LA Panel

I am looking for 1-2 co-panelists from the Los Angeles area to help me with an "UtaForum Presents:" panel at Anime Los Angeles 2015.

The concept for the panel is "We Made UTAU (And So Can You!)" and is planned to be a 90 minute Workshop with a 60 minute demonstration on how to make an UTAU along with an introduction and some time for Q&A. I plan on doing most of the heavy lifting, presenting/interacting with the crowd, etc. but I am looking for some co-panelists.

I would like an artist to help explain some aspects of character design, maybe interact with the crowd to make an original design? Beyond an artist I would like a person experienced with the software to help demo UTAU-Synth while I do the talking, and maybe helping me answer some technical questions some users may have.

Looking for people in the Los Angeles area. If you participate you will get free tickets to the con and while you are there you can probably hang out with myself, I'llSeeU-P, O.G., and other LA local UTAU & Vocaloid users/producers.

I would be willing to help, but don't know if my experience level is sufficient for what you need. I'm totally Mac-illiterate, but have done a few songs in PC-UTAU. Though I know about 2/3 of the hiragana now, I still only use romaji VBs, mainly due to my primary computer not supporting Japanese locale. If needed I think UTAU would run fine on my old laptop, but again don't know if it will support Japanese locale either.

This is supposed to be a basic "Introduction to UTAU Panel". Our goal isn't really to teach them how to UTAU in 90 short minutes but rather to motivate, show them that UTAU is something that is accessible, something that they can do, and inspire the audience to, maybe after the con is complete, visit UtaForum.net and learn in detail to make their own.

If any questions raised are too advanced or technical for us to handle, or we just don't want to confuse the crowd the modus opperandi will be to forward them to UtaForum and get a detailed explanation here. I just need someone competent in the program to demonstrate the software/operate the laptop while I narrate what you are doing.

Since this is being framed as a Workshop I wanted to add a level of interactivity/approach-ability so the format I had in mind included me standing pointing at the projection screen, interacting with the crowd, taking questions, etc. while 1-2 people on the table operating the laptop.

I'd be willing to help with an UTAU panel. I live in Laguna Beach and major in character concept design/ent/ illustration, so I could cover the artist portion you were looking for. I've always used PC UTAU so I won't be much help with UTAU synth, but if it helps I have used UTAU for over 5 years.

I'll be leaving to Texas in December for a few weeks for Holiday break, but I believe I'll be back in town in time for Anime LA.

AnimeLA is pretty late in January this year. Weekend of the 15th if I am not mistaken.

Also, heck yes! I wasn't sure if I would be able to do the planned character design "Design an Idol" section of the panel. While not the most important segment I thought it would really add to the audience's overall experience.

I had planned for the panel to be multi-part like so:

[Introduction/Info Segment]
[Design an Idol Segment]
[60 Minute Tutorial Segment]
[Big Reveal Segment]
[Closing/Q&A]

The basic concept of the "Design an Idol" segment would be a "choose your own adventure" path to character design. By limiting audience choice it cuts down on time it actually takes and we can pre-prepare as much material as possible.

I will probably be asking for a volunteer voicer from the ALA Facebook Page to donate their voice. That will decide the gender from the character. From there I was thinking of presenting the audience of 3-5 rough outfit sketches and having them vote on what design proposal they liked the best. Then maybe take crowd suggestions on an accessories, colors, and non-art aspects of said character like his/her personality or whatever.

From there I was hoping an artist could flesh out that rough sketch+character accessory decided by the crowd into some sort of basic lineart while we do our 60 minute tutorial on making an UTAU. At the end of both is the "reveal" segment where we could play a song and combine it with the line art to show the results of the panel and the crowd's decisions.

After the con present the full results: polished/colored character art, final song download, PV video, etc. on the ALA Facebook Page to drive traffic to UtaForum, YouTube, DeviantArts, and do some general self-promotion.

Do you think my concept is manageable and something you can help us with?
It all seemed like a good idea in my head, but I am a terribad artist and every artist I know works at a different pace so I wasn't sure if 60 minutes was enough time to turn user input and a design sketch into a lineart (the minimum level of progress I was comfortable with).

If you don't feel comfortable with this format and/or think it is a terrible idea tell me. It was only my initial concept.

Hentai, this is a great idea! Most people at the con might be familiar with VOCALOID, so they'll be really happy once they realise that they can make their own.

I'd be willing to help with the technical side. I live in LA. I'm really good at the technical side of UTAU and operating setparam and Oremo. I also am good at translating japanese.

Yay! Another co-panelist. Anime LA allows for an unlimited amount of panelists but caps us at 4 free badges per panel.

I sent you all a PM to confirm your details/participation so I can get the event application in. I think with this we have a full table~

It's Jan. 9-11. Also SRP is looking to do a Vocaloid concert there. They usually also do a Vocaloid panel session as well, & have a table in the exhibits. So this could turn into a major LA UTAU/Vocaloid gathering!
