I need help on creating my new UTAUloid

Hello!
Im not very active in these forums, but now this time I need your help with making my new UTAUloid.
I have been sketched a bit on the concept, but image edits is allowed for this UTAUloid too!
Well, I need help with especially the name for her (tomboy though...) I have been thinking about Torine, which means "Birdsound" because I LOVE birds!
She is pretty tall, 172 cm (dunno what´s in feet though 5,8?)
And she is having colored glasses or goggles (like Gumi Megpoid)with antennas attached.
Her voice range d#3 - g#4 so she has (it´s my voice and I'm female) pretty dark voice for to be a 17 year old female!
But I thought that would be rather unique to have a lower sounding female vocal.
Anyway, anyone ready to help me?

So you're needing help with the name?
What else? Are you wanting recording tips/where to start? Design help? etc?

Thanks both of you! Well, mainly the name. It´s difficult for me to understand how you record vcv vb´s and how you oto it in UTAU. And when do I know I can release my UTAUloid? How do I get it official? And maybe some design help too, don´t know If the anatomy is right. And you can also see that my coloring is pretty bad in this picture. Sorry for my "noobish" questions here. And Thank you both once again!

There's no such thing as a noobish question!

Let me hop on PC to give you links that will be useful. I will edit this post momentarily!

EDIT: Before you even download UTAU, you NEED to set your system locale to Japanese. This does not change the language of your PC, it just allows programs that are non-Unicode to run. You need this for UTAU, for Japanese UTAU banks that have hiragana (Japanese) filenames, and to use those banks properly as well. Hiragana are characters such as かきくけこ, and romaji is the term for 'romanized equivalent', aka the way to read those in english characters. かきくけこ is hiragana, and ka ki ku ke ko is the romaji equivalent. You'll pick this up with time. If you downloaded UTAU before switching your locale, delete it and redownload it (as well as any other voicebanks you may have downloaded already) after you have switched your locale.

VCV is a special recording style in UTAU. It stands for vowel-consonant-vowel and generally allows an UTAU voicebank to sound very smooth. This method is primarily used for Japanese.

First thing's first: you're going to need a recording software such as OREMO (built specially for UTAU recording) or audacity. The next thing you will need is a reclist. A reclist is the term used for a text file that has a list of things you need to record for a target language, hence the word reclist (record list). For VCV, there are several different reclists you can use, but I'd recommend this one for starting.

Here is a good video on voicebank formats. This will be useful to you. Skip to around 3:30 for VCV.

I'll use screencaps of OREMO from here on out to make sure you're getting accurate information.
Unzip your OREMO download somewhere safe. I put mine in Documents, personally. When you open OREMO, you'll get something like this. oremo open begin.png
At the bottom box, where I've got the blue line set to hide my name, that is where your wav files are going to be saved to. You can click on that box to change the destination folder, such as if you had a folder made on your desktop.

If you go to File, you'll see
Set Recording Folder
Load Voice List
Save Voice list
....etc....

You wanna hit Load Voice List.
This will let you find the reclist you downloaded previously and load it into OREMO.

Depending on how your reclist is written, you may see romaji or hiragana characters. I'm comfortable with hiragana characters, so I have loaded a reclist written that way. It does not matter if your reclist is hiragana or romaji. It's whatever you're more comfortable reading.
oremo reclist loaded.png

Use the arrow keys to navigate the reclist. Press and hold R to record. Recording a line from the reclist and using the arrow keys to move to the next line will save the previous recording to the recording folder.
For example...
Recording ああいあうえあ (a a i a u e a) and using my arrow key to go to the next sample いいういえいお (i i u i e i o) will save ああいあうえあ (a a i a u e a) into my folder.

Here is an example of what a VCV sample is supposed to sound like. You say each VCV sample as one continuous string.
This is mine for ああいあうえあ.
In romaji (english letter) reclists, it's common for the reclist to separate the syllables with underscores. Those don't indicate the need for a pause, they're only added to make it easier to read. An example of this is ka_ka_ki_ka_ku_ke_ka.

You can have a base oto file generated using a program called Moresampler. Download it from here and place it into your UTAU folder (or anywhere else convenient). Moresampler is good for various things, but the base oto generation is definitely a perk. Here's a video on that.

You're going to want a program called SetParam to fix up the oto. The Moresampler OTO will work but it isn't recommended to leave it as it is. Here is a guide on using Setparam, and here is a guide on OTOing VCV.

You can OTO within UTAU itself, but it's slow and tedious. Setparam makes it easier and faster.

Feel free to ask questions if I've not made something clear enough! @Elin

With regards to the naming, don't feel you have to use a Japanese name, I know it's common for most UTAUloids to have Japanese names (Which, for all intents and purposes, makes sense since most only speak Japanese) but, if a Western name etc. happens to speak to you, go for it. Might even help you to stand out~ (Also, like @Sors said -ne names aren't always received well ^^')

Design-wise, she looks pretty nice (I like the goggles) but she looks very Crypton-inspired, which is one of those things that put people off a bit. I personally think she stands out fairly well, but I would absolutely recommend creating a moodboard for the character and experimenting with some more styles before committing to this particular one.

I hope this has helped a bit

VCV is actually very simple. You take a string of syllables, like "kakakikakukeka" and record it in one go without pauses. Otoing is very simple too:
You create a base, most likely through setparam, oremo, moresampler or if the reclist you used comes with a base. However it is important (if you're doing it the standard way) to know the recording speed you did, as the beats per minute (bpm) determine the overlap and preutterance values. Usually people record at 100 bpm (using 300 for preutterance and 100 for overlap) or 120 bpm (using 250 for preutterance and 83 for overlap). You then adjust the oto to have the preutterance - the red line - between consonant and vowel. Or you can simply comission someone for a oto haha.
As far as the release goes, you can release your UTAU whenever you want by uploading the voicebank to a site like Mediafire or MEGA, and sharing the download link. It's either on your utau's own website, wiki entry, showcase page here on UTAforum or simply in the description of the release cover!

Hello!

Like Pokefan2012 said, you don't need to give a Japanese name for your UTAU. You can give a name of any language, just make sure to use some common sense and reliable sources. If you want, however, give a Japanese name, I suggest reading this post for some tips.

The design isn't itself bad even tho it's a little Crypton-like. You might want to explore different color palettes and some detail changes. For example, I think that you could try to change green to another color.

If you need any help/suggestion/tips with naming and/or character designing, feel free to PM me any time
