How do I record belting pitches close to the mic without peaking?

I want to record an F4-G4 pitch for my UTAU, but I can't get too close to the mic or it'll peak. If I go back too far from the mic, you can tell because it sounds distant. So could you all please help me? Thanks :D I record with OREMO, if that makes a difference.

The sound of being distant may be due to the reverb of your voice against the walls of the room you're in. I'm guessing that you can remove that by muffling it or something.

I know that some people make mini-recording booths by lining a box with towels and putting their microphone inside of it? Then I guess you could record from further away without it sounding distant?

Yup, in general the makeshift "recording box" (aka, towels or sweatshirts or what have you) and recording there is the best way to go about it. It minimizes where the reverb can extend to, but it's all being soaked up by the soft lining stuff anyways.

Thank you so much, that's really innovative! It's also cheap, which is good since I have no money XD[DOUBLEPOST=1412280024][/DOUBLEPOST]

That's a good strategy! Thanks
