What are some annoying things people who don't do art ask you/say to you?

Ah, so you get bashed for your love of shotas as well.
I get bashed for loving traps too. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE??
Yep. The nerve of some, if not all, people! If one thinks about it, child characters, especially young boy characters, are probably the most versatile of the age groups when it comes to characterization and development. Society just doesn't let them!

omg a ranting post

ok so whenever I draw annoying people wud come to me and says "is this a guy or a girl?" like uhm excuse me but you've been with me for the last 3 years and you dont know how i draw stuffs? like hoexcuse you

and also whenever I draw something real good that actually made me proud of myself fags wud actually ruin the piece by adding DICKS  like can you be anymore rude?

but it doesnt end there, they will complain like how the hair is weird, the body is weird, y boobs arent bigger, y no bewbs really annoys me. and also they will complain why i always draw females and not men since "ur a guy Adel", like hoe im born this way why dont u ask god y i was made this way
I get that same problem, only vice versa. I'm a female who solely draws young boys and, though not all the time, some will complain about why I never draw men and females. There really shouldn't be anything wrong with that. It's just personal preferences and if they don't like it, that's their problem.

Oh btw I loved Ren from NU'EST(probably because his hairdo from FACE reminded me of Len)... And Aron too.
Aron's great, but Ren is forever my bias. I love him so much.
He's my avatar on Vocaloid Otaku.
And I have an entire file in my pictures full of cute Ren things.
(btw FACE is my favourite of their songs.)

I don't know how to draw shotas. Help?
Let's see. How do I explain how to properly draw shotas? For starters, think about some young boy characters that you know and/or like and maybe draw some inspiration from them, whether it's wardrobe, appearance, personality, voice, etc. Many of my shonen characters are inspired by Jr. from Xenosaga, for example. Sometimes, I look up pictures of real-life boys and occasionally androgynous females for ideas. Ironic, right? But I only look up the latter for the hairstyles! Though I draw shotas of all kinds, I always want to make sure their designs are decent and practical for their occasions. This is usually one of the reasons why people put down shotas: versatility and the fact that their professionals commonly associate them as either obstacles, one-time victims, and/or sexual objects.

I usually start with the character's personality before I create his design, but however you want to draw shotas is really up to you.

"That looks easy"
"Oh I can do that"
"Anyone can do that"
"Why don't you [...] instead?"
"You should have [...}"
"I bet I could do that"

Those phrases apply to music production, animation and drawing.

Some of these have probably been said before, but here are a few of my personal gear-grinders:
"Why are they naked?"
"Why did you draw her with BOOBS?" (last I checked, most women have them.)
"Did you draw that?"
"Is that anime?" (I draw in a Western style...)
Or better yet, "that's not real art that's anime" (said to me by an art teacher. And, again, I don't even draw anime)
"Omg you're so good I can't even draw a straight line / stick figure!"
"How did you get so good? Teach me!" "I've been drawing seriously for twelve years and I've put countless hours of hard work into my skills; you'll never get good if you don't put in any effort, but I believe that everyone has the potential to be a great artist --" "Lol no you're just talented. I'll never be that good."
"Do you take requests?" "Not often, and usually only from friends." "Can I be your friend then??"
"Is that you?"
"Is that me?"
"Is that [insert famous person / character]?"
"Why are they angry / sad / any emotion other than happy?"

"Why do you only draw girls? Draw a boy!"
Okay then. *draws a boy*
"Lmao he looks like a girl"
WELL I CAN'T DRAW BOYS OKAY???
"Can you draw me?" says kind overweight person who is most likely my friend.
Ummmm.......... and then I want to draw them accurately but they will get mad by saying I think they're fat.
"What kind of hair is that???"
Ah, a question I get when drawing Maika or my UTAU. It's her hair; that's what kind of hair it is.
"Why don't you colour them?"
Because they look better shaded.
"Why does she look so young?"
Uh... she's a teenager?
"Why is her skirt so short?"
Manga style. Look it up.
"Why are her thighs so fat?" and "Why is she so skinny?"
That's my art style. It fits how beauty standards go for me.
"Her hair/outfit/insert critiquable thing here is ugly!"
Well, she's still prettier than you.

And my favourite.
"Is that one of those Chinese girls off of Pokemon?"
GET A LIFE

Here's another thing I get often that is not art related.
Me:*listening to some NU'EST or Seventeen*
Person: Ooh, can I listen?
Me: ok
Person: Eww, is this those Japanese boys that sing Chinese and dance around and kiss each other?
Me: ...

IT'S K-POP! KOREAN POP MUSIC! GET IT RIGHT YOU MORON
I RELATE!!!!! "Japanese boys who sing chinese" holy f
[doublepost=1481499003][/doublepost]I've thought of more...,.,...

"why are they (insert expression here)"
"why is their hair so weird"
"i'd never wear that" (i draw short skirts and tumblr aesthetic looking clothing alot :uhuhu:>)
"why do you only draw girls"
"whys she so skinny"
"whys she so thicc"
"how do u draw that"
"did you draw that" (DO YOU SEE ME DRAWING RN??)
"is that..."
"is that me/you?"
"nice anime" (the only "anime" part of my drawings are eyes and they dont even look that anime like"

This post is in a "What they said" / (What I thought) format.

"Don't just draw in Japanese, you need to have another style like in the Sunday comics, something American." (Talk about xenophobia! That's a word for word quote btw.)
"The eyes and the hair look very Asian, don't you think?" (No way, do they really? Another word for word quote.)
"Wow that's looks really good! Draw me." (Stop what I'm doing and draw you? But--!? ...I got this just about anywhere.)
"Can you draw a little faster?" (Oh yeah, let me just draw some stick figures instead. That'll be way faster!)
"Sometimes, you can just draw a little slower and take your time." (Then you go ahead and do it!)
"Oh I can only draw photo-realistic, it really sucks." (If it's photo-realism... how does it suck!?)
"Can you draw me a tsunami and have it done by tomorrow?" (This unpaid commission actually happened.)
"We should draw something together." (No way that'll never get done and our styles conflict way too much!)

"Can you draw something and me colour it?"
Totally. Let's see that you don't understand colour theory.
"Her boobs are too big/she's fat/she's too curvy."
Excuse me, but I draw what I find attractive. I think chunky curvy girls are much cuter than sticks with no chests.
"Can you teach me how to do eyes?"
Sure, if you're willing to take an hour-long class from me while I'm drilling you just because you wanted it.
"Omg is she Japanese?"
This normally happens when I draw a random girl with no name or story. She can be any race. She might even be Italian, Filipino, or Canadian.
"What's this?(when they see my scratch sheet with colours and ink scribbles)"
That's necessary because I'm going to forget what colour is where.
"Is that a colouring sheet?"
Uh, I drew this? I think this happens because I leave a very thick outline around the entire drawing when I ink, so it looks like a colouring page.
"Is that Sailor Moon?"
This time I had actually drawn Sailor Moon. I was like,"Hmm, I wonder why she looks like Sailor Moon then."

Oh here's a story.
When I was in fifth grade, I drew a girl(it wasn't all that great considering I was ten), and some butt drew nipples on her with a pen. I actually used that to my advantage. I inked the whole drawing and covered her shirt in dots to make the "nipples" look intentional, considering they were just circles.

I don't know if it's worse when they say "ew" or when they don't say anything at all. Putting that aside...
"TEACH ME PLEASEEeeeeeE" (I tried to once, didn't go too well)
"How did you draw that?" (The stick figure, or...?)
"That's really good. HEY EVERYONE LOOK AT THIS DRAWING" (Nobody asked you to do that)

This happened once with someone who also draws: "That's okay I guess but LOOK AT MINE"

The main thing I hate is when people are like, "Oh wow, you are so good. You did amazing. I could never do that, my art sucks." I'm never sure how to respond. Like thanks? Or when people try to say I have talent. Like no, it's not talent, it's skill. I've had years of practice. I didn't wake up one day good at drawing. Then the, "Will you draw me?" Or "Can you draw me X,Y, Z characters?"

  1. You draw??? Draw me!!!!
  2. Can you draw these characters doing this/these thing/s?
  3. Can you draw me a tattoo?
  4. Why do you draw noses like that?
  5. Why do you always draw that same boy?
  6. Can you do letters -- I'd love a letter tattoo.
  7. Will you change X/Y/Z about this drawing?
  8. Can you redraw this picture with X and Y characters?
  9. OMG do you take requests (yes, I do here on UF, however - it can get really overwhelming OTL)
  10. Draw my OC!
  11. Draw my OTP!
  12. Can you draw X character doing Y thing and let me take credit for giving you the idea? (Yeah, I've had this said to me once!)
  13. Ew, why that art style?
  14. Do you draw furries?
  15. Can you draw X/Y/Z characters doing the r18? (No. lmao.)
  16. Do you do commissions?!?!?! (Well, yes, I do. But that response never gets anywhere, because people run at the thought of paying artists actual money for actual food so they can actually eat and live.)
